They attract and retain staff who share this vision and who are assured of the knowledge that creativity, drive and their own standards of personal excellence are only limited by how far and fast they can move.Role ResponsibilitiesObtaining hydrological and meteorological data and accurate analysis thereofUsing statistical methods and techniques in hydrologyApplying Hydrological and hydraulic modelling abilities (Pitman, WRSM , and HEC-RAS, PCSWMM or similar)Conducting field measurements including water flow and water quality measurementsMeasuring and graphing phenomena such as stream flows, and changes in water volumesDesign and conduct scientific hydrological investigations to ensure that accurate and appropriate information is available for use in water resource management decisions.Hydrological catchment delineationHydrological calculations, including rainfall-runoff and peak flowsUndertake flood risk assessment and flood line determinationWater & Salt balancesStorm Water Management PlanningRisk and mitigation assessments and management plansConceptual design and sizing of stormwater infrastructureAuditing water infrastructure in terms of DWS guidelinesReport writing ,including Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reportingClient presentations and meetings and internal communicationCompilation of proposal documents and costing. Business DevelopmentGenerate work by identifying and writing effective proposalsCompile and submit tendersNew services to existing clientsExisting services to new clientsPresent papers at industry conferences to show-case GCS expertiseAttend relevant forums and conferences for self-development and networking purposesAchieve revenue budgetContribute to unit’s revenue budgetSubmit timesheets in line with GCS financial requirementsInvoicing implemented in line with GCS procedures and financial requirementsBehavioural CompetenciesWilling to travelAbility to manage own time, plan and organise, meet deadlines and work within a budgetTake full responsibility for client and project managementEager to learn and grow the businessEducation and ExperienceBSc or Engineering degree (+ MSc in Hydrology or similar optional)Minimum 8 years’ hydrological experienceMembership of professional industry bodies (Pr.Sci.Nat, Pr Eng) or similarGood knowledge of hydrological scienceKnowledge of environmental legislation and the National Water ActConsider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate oneGood knowledge of a diversity of environments including mining and urban systemsSoils knowledge an added advantageAgricultural knowledge an added advantageExperience within the consulting environment and mining sector will be an added advantage
