Technical Services ManagerThis sector leader is seeking a professional, experienced Technical Services Manager to join their team at their offices in Cape Town. The successful applicant will report to the Regulatory Affairs, Compliance & Food Safety Executive; they will oversee and manage the Technical Services Department of the business.This client of ours is a food services provider and manufacturing business based in South Africa. The company is comprised of three operating branches – a supplier of products and technologies to the meat and poultry industry, a supplier of food ingredients to the dairy and culinary sectors, and a supplier of ingredients and services to the QSR sectors of the industry. Operating autonomously from each other, the three companies are bound by adherence to the group policy of supplying superior quality products and solutions to the food industry, while sharing supply chain resources such as product development, sourcing, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.Role ResponsibilitiesAdvise and monitor food safety and regulatory initiatives, providing strategic direction to all business units.Manage the company’s adherence to the legislative aspects relating to quality and food safety through the effective management of Quality and Food Safety systemsEnsure certification to the FSSC and the BRC within the scope of work being managed.Manufacturing Quality Management System is maintained, and the annual external audit is PassedEnsure the capability and competence of the laboratories are maintained.Oversee all the Food Safety activities, including in-process quality control, facility GMP and GLPs as far as practical.Develop and empower a team of Food Safety; Quality Assurance and Quality Control Technical Staff to ensure synergy in the team.Keep abreast of changes to food legislation, and ensure the company is informed for appropriate implementation thereof as far as practical.Ensure that the Food Safety Management systems (BRC; FSSC & FSA) are maintained at both Manufacturing operations and Trading Branches as applicable within the scope of work being managed.Ensure administrative requirements are adhered to as required by Food Safety Management Systems, Quality Assurance/Control Systems, as well as business management.Ensure that the audit requirements of Certification Bodies, customers and clients are consistently achieved as far as practical.Manage and continuously improve a Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) programme for the company.Facilitate and organise Food Safety and Quality related training where needed and working with Food Safety.Ensure efficient collaboration with Supply Chain, Commercial, Product Development, and Innovations departments to identify new opportunities and implement project plans related to continuous improvement.Maintain internal laboratory competencies and capability and benchmark compliance with ISO .Develop staff competencies, and lead technical services personnel and department into meeting workplace objectives and goals.Tend to staff-related HR matters when required.Manage budget for Technical ServicesBehavioural CompetenciesStrong leadership and management capabilityExcellent people Leadership skillsGood communication skills, written and verbal (English)Perform well under pressureFlexible in working hoursEducation and ExperienceTertiary qualification: B.Tech Food Technology / Environmental Health / BSc Food Science or relevant qualificationAn additional management-related diploma/degree would be advantageousStrong Food Safety & Quality Assurance/Quality Control background preferably within a Food IngredientsManufacturing Facility, including, but not limited to Spices & Herbs, Sauces, Marinades and other Condiments manufacturingExperience in the spice and seasoning manufacturing environment with good knowledge of food safety management systems including BRC, FSSC , HACCPExperience in Laboratory Quality AssuranceHigh analytical capability, with special emphasis on implementing processes and systems to ensure complianceAble to effectively optimise quality systems and work across divisions or departments with a view to the alignment of integrated processes, including SQA with ProcurementCost management ensures that expenses do not exceed the budget, in particularTechnical reports related to Budget Management to be prepared and presented Monthly, Quarterly during the Supply Chain Reviews in the businessComputer literate (MS Office, Syspro 6, BI Tools)Alternatively, you are also welcome to contact at or connect with her on Please note that correspondence will only be conducted with shortlisted candidates for this position.Should you not hear from us within 3 days, please consider your application unsuccessful.
