Bobcat Operator Job DutiesBobcat operators have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include: Operating equipment such as tractors, bulldozers, backhoes, motor graders, scrapers, and other machinery to perform demolition, excavation, land clearing, and grading tasksInspecting equipment to identify mechanical problems that may occur during operationInterpreting blueprints, maps, and plans to determine needed site measurements or construction layoutsTraining others in proper safety procedures and equipment useOperating tractors equipped with hydraulic front end loaders, backhoes, or bulldozers to dig ditches or trenches for pipelines or cablesOperating a variety of heavy machinery including backhos, bulldozers, graders, and loaders to construct roads or clear land for construction projectsOperating cranes and other construction equipment to move materials into place for construction projectsOperating a range of construction equipment including excavators, front-end loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, scrapers, forklifts, cranes, trucks, and tractorsOperating earthmoving equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, and scrapers to excavate and clear land for various purposes such as building construction projects and utility projects such as laying pipelines or cable lines Bobcat Operator Job RequirementsA bobcat operator typically needs to have the following qualifications:Education: Most employers require bobcat operators to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Some employers may require an associate’s degree in agriculture, animal science or a related field. These programs teach students about animal husbandry, animal nutrition, animal behavior and animal reproduction.Training & Experience: Most companies require new bobcat operators to complete a training program before they begin working on their own. These programs typically last between one and three months and include instruction on safety, equipment use and maintenance.Certifications & Licenses: Certifications are not typically a requirement to operate a bobcat, but they can show your dedication and commitment to your profession.
